Investment calculators
that show their assumptions

Fifteen calculators for time value of money, fund fees, bonds and tax-aware investing, written for advisory and planning firms that need projections with their assumptions on the page.

Overview

Clients rarely search for 'present value'. They search for whether a fund fee is worth it, what a muni yield is worth in their bracket, or how long it takes to recover from a market drop. These calculators answer those questions with arithmetic the client can see and change.

The tax-aware section is where CPA firms and advisers overlap: tax-equivalent yield, REIT distributions and 1031 exchange deadlines are as much tax questions as investment ones.

Projections with guardrails

Each investment calculator lets the client choose the rate of return, so the tool never asserts what an investment will earn. The calculator pages here spell out what each one ignores, such as taxes on distributions, sequence of returns and fees, which supports the disclosure an adviser needs.

A request from these calculators tells you what the prospect is weighing: a fee comparison suggests an existing advisory relationship they are questioning; a 1031 timeline suggests a closing date and a deadline.

When clients reach for investments & markets calculators

Each calculator page names the month its question peaks. Plan content, emails and homepage features around these.

Fee and allocation tools are steady year-round and spike after market drops; tax-aware tools peak in the fourth quarter and at filing; 1031 tools follow property closings.

FAQ

Investments & markets calculators: common questions

Showing 8 of 8
  • Do the investment calculators predict returns?

No. The client enters the return rate. The calculators do compounding arithmetic on that assumption and say so. That design matters for advisers, because the firm is not presenting a projected return.

  • Can an RIA use these calculators under the SEC Marketing Rule?

Many do, with care. An interactive tool clients use themselves is treated differently from adviser-presented hypothetical performance if the adviser explains methodology, assumptions, limitations and that results vary. Talk to your CCO before launch; see our compliance guide.

  • What does the tax-equivalent yield calculator include?

Federal and, if the client enters it, state rate. The 3.8%2026 · IRS net investment income tax can be added to the federal rate by the client. It does not model out-of-state muni treatment or AMT.

  • Is the 1031 exchange calculator a substitute for a qualified intermediary?

No. It shows the 45 calendar days to identify, 180 to close2026 · IRS windows from a closing date and estimates deferred gain. Exchanges depend on a qualified intermediary and correct documentation, which is exactly the conversation it prompts.

  • Which plan includes the investment calculators?

Network. Investments are in the platform's top tier, alongside tax, retirement and business. See pricing.

  • Can a broker-dealer representative use these?

Possibly, but FINRA rules differ: Rule 2210 generally prohibits projections, and Rule 2214 allows investment analysis tools with specific disclosures. Check with your broker-dealer's compliance team first.

  • Can we hide calculators we don't want to offer?

Yes. You choose which calculators are active and which appear in each widget. Some advisory firms leave the stock option calculator off and keep the fee and allocation tools.

  • Do the calculators link to our investment products?

No, and we recommend against it. The button sends a request to your firm; it does not recommend a security or fund.
