Estimates, not advice
Calculators on numbersforclients.com, and calculators provided by NumbersForClients on firms’ websites, produce estimates for illustration based on the inputs entered, the figures for the tax year shown and the assumptions stated with each calculator. They are not tax, legal, accounting, investment or financial advice, and they do not create a client relationship with us or with any firm.
Limits
Each calculator states what it leaves out, for example state and local taxes, the alternative minimum tax, credits and phase-outs, vesting, fees, sequence of returns or specific plan rules. Real outcomes depend on facts the calculator doesn’t know. Results may differ from official figures (for example IRS tables that use income brackets) by small or large amounts.
Figures and sources
Statutory figures are for the tax year indicated and come from the sources listed on our tax figures page. Laws and figures change; we review them each January and when law changes, but we can’t guarantee a figure is current at the moment you read it.
For firms
Firms that publish calculators are responsible for:
- the advice they give in response to calculator requests, including written advice standards under Treasury Department Circular 230 (§10.37) for practitioners before the IRS;
- their advertising, including Circular 230 §10.30, the AICPA Code’s advertising rule and state board rules;
- for investment advisers, compliance with the SEC Marketing Rule (Rule 206(4)-1) or state rules, including the treatment of projections and hypothetical performance; and for broker-dealers, FINRA Rules 2210 and 2214;
- their privacy notices and the handling of end users’ information, including IRC §7216 where applicable.
