Tax calculators for firm websites,
set to 2026 IRS figures

Twelve tax calculators for CPA firms, enrolled agents and tax preparers: federal income tax, paychecks, credits, self-employment and estate questions, each running on sourced figures such as the $184,5002026 · SSA Social Security wage base.

Overview

Most tax questions a firm fields between January and October are estimates, not engagements: what a raise does to take-home pay, which bracket the next dollar lands in, whether self-employment tax will hurt in April. These calculators let a client answer that first question on your site, at any hour, with your firm's name on the page.

Every calculator here shows what it leaves out (state tax, AMT, phase-outs, credits it does not model), carries a not-advice line, and uses the figure set listed on our 2026 tax figures page. When the client's question outgrows the estimate, they can send the inputs and result to you.

What a tax shelf does for a firm

It turns seasonal noise into qualified requests. A self-employed client who has just seen a large self-employment tax estimate is ready to talk about estimated payments or an S corporation analysis. A household checking the Earned Income Credit may need a return prepared, not a phone call.

It also gives the website a reason to be visited outside filing season, which matters for search: pages that answer a specific question with current figures are the ones that get found.

Calendar

When clients reach for taxes calculators

Each calculator page names the month its question peaks. Plan content, emails and homepage features around these.

Paycheck tools peak in January and after mid-year raises; 1040 and marginal-rate tools from February through the April 15 deadline; self-employment tax again before each estimated payment; estate and charitable tools in the fourth quarter.

FAQ

Taxes calculators: common questions

Showing 8 of 8
  • Which tax year do the tax calculators use?

Tax year 2026. Brackets and standard deductions follow IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 as amended by the 2025 tax law, and every other figure is listed with its source on the 2026 figures page. We re-verify each January.

  • Do the tax calculators include state income tax?

No. They estimate federal tax, plus payroll taxes where relevant. State tax varies too much to model honestly in one tool, and each calculator says so in its limits section. Firms can mention their state expertise in the calculator's button text or follow-up.

  • Will clients mistake an estimate for a prepared return?

Each calculator labels results as estimates and shows a disclaimer under the results. The calculator pages on this site also list what each one omits. Firms can edit the title and button text to make the point in their own words, for example 'Estimate only, ask us to prepare your return'.

  • Which plan includes the tax calculators?

The Network plan. In the platform the tax topic sits in the top tier, so Practitioner and Firm plans do not include it. Network has a 14-day trial, so a firm can put the whole tax shelf on its site before paying. See pricing.

  • Can we change the default numbers clients see?

Yes. Labels, defaults and help text are editable per calculator. A firm whose clients are mostly self-employed might default the self-employment tax calculator to a typical net profit for its client base.

  • Are the tax calculators useful for enrolled agents as well as CPAs?

Yes. The questions are the same, and EAs often serve the self-employed and small-business clients who ask about self-employment tax, estimated payments and credits. See the enrolled agent page.

  • Do clients' calculator inputs count as tax return information?

An enquiry made through a calculator is not a tax return. Once a client engages a preparer, IRC §7216 limits how return information can be used and disclosed, so keep calculator leads and return data handling separate in your process.

  • How do we pick which tax calculators to show first?

Start with the calendar. Put paycheck tools in front in January, the 1040 and marginal-rate tools through April, and self-employment tax ahead of estimated payment dates. Widgets let you change the featured set without editing your site.
