Growth and return calculators
Future value, present value, annualized return, IRR and loss recovery: the arithmetic behind most planning conversations.
These calculators teach as they answer. A client who sees that a 30% loss needs a 42.9% gain to recover understands why diversification matters; one who sees present value understands why a lump sum is not simply the sum of payments.
Future Value
how much will my money grow if I invest it
Present Value
how much do I need to invest now to have 50000 in 10 years
Annual Rate of Return
what was my average annual return
Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
what is the return on this investment with cash flow and sale
Investment Loss Recovery
how long will it take my portfolio to recover
When clients reach for the math
Future Value
New Year's resolutions and windfalls. “how much will my money grow if I invest it”
Annual Rate of Return
When annual statements arrive. “what was my average annual return”
Investment Loss Recovery
Right after a market decline. “how long will it take my portfolio to recover”
Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
When a deal or property is on the table. “what is the return on this investment with cash flow and sale”
Present Value
When a known future cost comes into view. “how much do I need to invest now to have 50000 in 10 years”
Growth & returns: questions firms ask
Do these calculators assume a return?
No, the client enters it. The tools do compounding arithmetic.
What's the difference between rate of return and IRR?
Rate of return annualizes a start and end value. IRR handles irregular cash flows in and out.
Why include a loss recovery calculator?
It answers the question clients ask after a market drop, and shows the gain needed and time required at an assumed return.
Do they adjust for inflation?
They work in nominal dollars and say so. The inflation calculators in household planning handle real values.
Are these useful for CPA firms?
Yes, present value and IRR support business and lease decisions as well as personal ones.
Can clients print results?
Yes, every calculator can print or share its results.
Are they hypothetical performance?
They project from the client's own assumption. Advisers should still present methodology and limits; see the compliance guide.
Which plan includes them?
Network.
